Pharmacy First Scheme
Many conditions can be treated without the need to see your GP
Pharmacy First will enable community pharmacists to supply prescription-only medicines, including antibiotics and antivirals where clinically appropriate, to treat seven common health conditions without the need to visit a GP.
What are the seven common conditions?
- Sinusitis (12 years and over)
- Sore throat (5 years and over)
- Earache (1-17 years)
- Infected insect bite ( 1 year and over)
- Impetigo (1 year and over)
- Shingles (18 years and over)
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women (16-64 years)
Urgent Appointment
To book an urgent appoint for the today (Mon-Fri):
- Contact reception on 0161 983 9500 from 8:00am
- Visit the practice and speak with reception (Mon-Fri) as early as possible.
Routine Appointment
Booking appointments is simple and easy, the routes to do this are:
- By telephone - Reception line opens at 8am, you can contact us on 0161 983 9500
- Online Triage - If you want help for a medical issue fill in our Online Triage
- In Person - You can attend the practice and speak with reception at the front desk.
Cancelling or changing an appointment
Appointments are regularly being missed and we are becoming stricter with patients who DO NOT attend.
If you are unable to attend your appointment, you can cancel through the following routes:
1. NHS App
2. Through text message reminders you will receive
3. Contacting the practice and pressing option 1. This will allow you to cancel appointments 24/7.
Home visits
If you are housebound or are unable to get to the surgery due to illness please telephone the practice BEFORE 12pm to request a home visit.
This is then reviewed by the GP.
Appointment Protocol
Our Receptionists will be required to ask the following information to be able to provide the best care:
o Patient Name
o DOB or Address
o Reason for the Call / Symptoms – this will enable our receptionist to signpost you to the most
appropriate clinician.
o Your contact Number
We are able to offer appointments with:
o GP
o Nurse
o Nurse Associate and Trainee Nurse Associate
o HCA
o Physio
o Practice based Pharmacist
o Mental Health Practitioner
o Health Coach
o Social Prescribers
Where appropriate, appointments will be allocated based on clinical need and available workforce capacity.
Patients can ask to see a specific clinician of their choosing but please note, this may mean having to wait longer
depending on your chosen clinician’s availability.
1. Same day telephone and face to face appointments can be requested via our online form, visiting our
Practice and speaking to our reception team or via telephone from 08:00 to 18:30 Monday to Friday
(exc bank holidays). When asking for a telephone appointment, patients may be asked to visit the
Practice for a face-to-face appointment if it is deemed more clinically appropriate.
2. Pre-bookable (routine) telephone/face to face appointments at set times for routine appointments
can be requested via our online form, visiting our Practice and speaking to our reception team or via
telephone from 08:00 Monday to Friday (exc bank holidays). These appointments are released in
advance depending on capacity, usually up to two weeks in advance. Appointments for cervical
screening (smear) are available to book into directly, via the NHS App or you can contact us as you
would for a routine appointment request as detailed above.
3. Extended Access appointments can be booked via telephone or by visiting the practice and speaking
to our reception team for appointments in an evening 18.30-20.00 or for a Saturday.
4. Pharmacies are also available to help during their working hours. Pharmacists can help with a variety
of symptoms including but not limited to: sickness/diarrhoea, bites/stings, ear ache, medication

receptionist will be able to help you find your local pharmacy and even arrange for them to call you.
5. NHS 111 / 111 Online can help 24/7 to provide medical advice and assistance.
6. 999 / A&E is available 24/7 for medical emergencies
Urgent advice: If you need help when we are closed
If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or Call 111.
NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.
Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
